30 years

Can you imagine, 30 years
Of asking the world to stop policing policies that protect us
On rotation misrepresenting us
Begging nations to take action
30 years! Can you imagine?
#
Survivors
Listen to them
Instead you thrive in pointing fingers
Knotting women in a shame bubble
Imagine, for 30 years!!
#
Waging war on women
Calling them feminists
As though to abuse them
Not knowing that this word feminist is what has shaped movements
Movements that protect me
#
30 darn years! Can you imagine?
/
We need not be polite to cite that the light to highlight our plight is not bright
Too nice for a vice that harbors no peace for us
Because the world has made us feel like we need to small down
Cage in and if we talk, speak slow and lower the voice
#
For 30 darn years! Yes, Imagine that!

“The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. It was started by activists at the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and continues to be coordinated each year by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership. It is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.”
