times
times I want to sit in the rain
and feel all the droplets
as they let themselves flow over me
freely like they own pieces of my skin
//
times I envy how waters from the sky
shamelessly decide to rule us
keeping us indoors as they dance on our land
the nerve!
//
times I want to invite myself to spaces
spaces that belong to me too
like the rain, that feeds the earth
with water, sprouting meals for all beings
//
I feed nations and generations
but my womb is not all that I offer
check how my brain rains
and I don’t need to justify
//
like the rain,
i will take the space that is mine too
To achieve a society that is free of gender based violence where laws don’t favour abusers and don’t look down on survivors, we need equitable leadership positions for women. The shoe fits, they understand the issues of women- include more women to speak and advocate for women and girls.
Data on women leadership, UN Women
As of 1 September 2021, there are 26 women serving as Heads of State and/or Government in 24 countries. At the current rate, gender equality in the highest positions of power will not be reached for another 130 years
Just 10 countries have a woman Head of State, and 13 countries have a woman Head of Government
Only 21 per cent of government ministers were women, with only 14 countries having achieved 50 per cent or more women in cabinets.
With an annual increase of just 0.52 percentage points, gender parity in ministerial positions will not be achieved before 2077.
